ATHENS – The Athens Senior Citizens Club met May 8 at the Athens United Methodist Church for their Mother’s Day Swiss steak luncheon. Larry Turner said the invocation. We had 28 members and one guest, Marsha McCormick, and Ted and Patti Benjamin.
Ted and Patti Benjamin were our entertainment. The program consisted of “Pretty Woman” by Roy Orbison, “Cara Mia” by Jay and the Americans, “Every Time You Walk Into the Room,” “Preacher, Tell Me Like It Is” by Greater Vision, “If You Get There Before I Do,” by Colin Raye, “Suspicion” by Terry Stafford, and “It’s Not Unusual” by Tom Jones. Ted and Patti sang “If I Was Not the First.” Everyone enjoyed them. They donated the money collected for them back to the Citizens group.
We thank Sandy Keener for the beautiful oriental metal and stone chip trees she gave all our mothers.
May birthdays were Roselyn Jarvis (May 3), Doris LaDue (May 9), Don Scudder (May 23), Arlene Ogden (May 29) and Frank Malone (May 30). We celebrated Burt and Donna Cole’s anniversary (May 17).
Prayers were said for Don and Della Scudder, Ginny and Frank Malone, Helen and Jim McCloe and those who could not make this get together.
June 12 at noon will be our next meeting. It will be held at the Ulster United Methodist Church.
Martha Kress will be our entertainment for the Father’s Day meeting. The meal will be catered with a chicken and biscuits complete meal with strawberry shortcake for dessert. Call Dick for reservations at (570) 888-3088 by June 3.
