WEST BURLINGTON - The Bradford County Library presents "Sugihara: Conspiracy of Kindness," a documentary film, on Monday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m.
In the fall of 1939, Hitler's murderous wave was sweeping the Eastern Europe. In the face of the Nazi attack, Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara, stationed in Lithuania, risked his life by defying Tokyo authorities by writing more than 2,000 transit visas that allowed hundreds of families to flee Russia to Japan and safe havens abroad. It is estimated that 40,000 people owe their existence to Sugihara's heroism.
In 1984, Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center, recognized Chiune-Sempo Sugihara as Righteous Among the Nations, people who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust.
The showing of this film is free and open to the public.
The Bradford County Library is located on Route 6, one mile west of Burlington. For more information, please call the library at (570) 297-2436.
