LEGISLATURE MULLING POTENTIAL PRIVATIZATION OF BARTON TRANSFER STATION

OWEGO — Members of the Tioga County Legislature are now considering privatizing the county’s solid waste managment service. The county currently owns and operates the Barton Transfer Station on State Route 17C, which handles all of the county’s waste disposal. However, the county has reportedly been losing around $10 per ton by handling waste removal itelf.
