Richard Calvin Gleockler, 86

Richard Calvin Gleockler, age 86, of Forksville, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the Williamsport Hospital, Williamsport, Pa.

Dick was born in Forksville, Pa., on October 6, 1925, a son of the late Chester F. and Ada Yonkin Gleockler. He graduated from the Elkland Township Vocational High School, Estella, Pa. a member of the class of 1942. He served in the US Navy during WWII. After the war, he graduated from Bloomsburg College in 1950 and earned his MA from Bucknell University in 1954.

Dick married the former Alice May Schweinebraten of Meadowlands, Pa., on August 25, 1951. Alice predeceased him on February 8, 1995.

Dick taught science at the Loyalsock Joint High School, Estella, and later was assistant principal at the Estella High School. He then went to the Wyalusing High School. He was the supervising principal at the North Potter Jointure and was the principal at the Sayre High School. He became a professor at the West Chester College, West Chester, Pa., from which he retired in 1982.

He was a member of the Forksville United Methodist Church, Sonestown Post #601, Lewisville Lodge # 556

F. &A.M. Ulysses, Pa., and a member and past president of the Eagles Mere Country Club.

He is survived by his special friend, Elaine Olverd, Nunda,

N.Y.; daughters, Alice May-

Yarnall, West Chester, Pa., Cynthia Lynn Hughes, Chantilly,

Va., Ellen Roberts, Homestead, Fla.; sisters, Mrs. Rita Tubach, Forksville, Pa., Mrs. Shirley Bonnell, Montoursville, Pa.; sister-in-law, Theresa Gleockler, Dushore, Pa.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Chester E. Gleockler on October 25, 2000, and Leon C. “Babe” Gleockler on April 1, 2008.

Relatives and friends are invited to a reception in his memory which will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Eagles Mere Country Club, Eagles Mere, Pa.

The family will provide the flowers and memorials are directed to American Cancer Society, Sullivan County Unit., 1948 E. 3rd Street, Williamsport, PA 17701
