WAVERLY — This year, in lieu of gifts for Mothers’ Day and Father’s Day, members of the Valley United Presbyterian Church congregation were invited to contribute to a fund to give a gift from the church to support local families.
Donations from the congregation matched the contributions from the Mission and Benevolence and Music and Worship Committees resulting in the grand total reaching over $1,200.
On June 23, Liz Myers, a board member, joined the congregation in a Minute for Mission during the worship service to gratefully receive the check on behalf or The Waverly Family Resource Center.
The Waverly Family Resource Center, now in its 21st year, is a program of Cornell Cooperative Extension that provides drop in play space, parent-child activities and parenting workshops. As an example, its website tells us that this summer it is conducting a six-week Kids in The Kitchen program, “a hands on experience where children and parents have an opportunity to make recipes together. The recipes are simple, kid friendly and low cost.”
“Our thanks to the congregation whose spirit of giving made this project a success,” a press release from the VUPC said.
