WAVERLY — The Waverly Recreation Booster Club announced this week a series of fundraisers to help reach the local goal needed for the extensive upgrades slated for the Waverly Glen Park.

Last year, the state awarded the village a $490,000 grant to undergo a slew of projects at the park. The catch was that the municipality had to put forth $120,000 of its own funds, which could be written off via other grants or the completion of in-kind services.

Since then, fundraising efforts have been taking place to offset the cost of the local contribution.

The booster club’s events are:

• The Waverly Recreation and Glen Project Golf Tournament Tomasso’s on Aug. 4. Sign-ups are available at the golf course.

• Jazz band night at Shepard Hills Country Club on Aug. 15.

• Flapjack Fundraiser Day on Sept. 21, sponsored by Applebee’s.

“We’re doing everything we can minimize the cost,” Mayor Patrick Ayres said.

In other village news, trustees voted to award a contract for the Community Development Block Grant administrative duties to Thoma Development Consultants for $87,500. Thoma submitted the lone bid for the work.

“They’re a good company,” Ayres said. “They’ve done a lot of great work here before.”

The village will pay for the work via its CDBG allocation, which is $500,000, said Ayres.
