Memorial Day tradition

As is the pre-Memorial Day tradition, U.S. flags were placed on the graves of military veterans at the Ascension of Our Lord Ukrainian Cemetery on Armed Forces Day last Saturday. The Cemetery, on Herrick Avenue in Athens, has had flags placed on veterans’ graves for 75 years. For the past 13 years, parishioner and Army veteran Daniel Polinski and his wife Judy have been posting the colors. Prior to that, Andrew Bobick, Jr., a WW II Army veteran, carried the solemn responsibility for 30 years.
