Casting their votes

Students at Lynch-Bustin Elementary School got a lesson in civic duty on Election Day. The school in partnership with the PTG recently purchased a new mascot costume. Students were introduced to the masot last week before each grade level submitted their name nomination for the ballot. In what came down to a very close contest, the winning name is Whiskers with 198 votes. A close second was Kit Kat with 193 votes. The other names on the ballot were Athena, 75 votes, L.B. Wildkitten, 64 votes and Wilma, 16 votes. Teachers took this opportunity with Election Day to educate students on the importance of our electoral system and why every vote matters. What better way for students to learn about our democracy then to provide them with a real world opportunity for their voice to be heard. Pictured above are Mrs. Allen and her class submitting their ballots.
