A Waverly man was taken into protective custody following a one-hour standoff with police officers Sunday night, according to Waverly Village Police.
Police stated that the man — age 43 — had made numerous verbal threats to harm himself with a loaded shotgun while inside his home on Loder Street.
The incident began at 6:32 p.m. and the man — whose identity was not released by law enforcement officials — surrendered to officers on scene and was taken into custody at 7:30 p.m., police said.
Officers had traveled to the Loder Street home that night to arrest the man on accusations of aggravated harassment following a complaint that was filed which alleged that he had made threats to physically harm a female victim on that day, police explained.
The man was transported to a hospital in Binghamton for treatment, police said.
The Waverly Village Police Department was assisted at the scene by Sayre Police Department, the South Waverly Borough Police Department, the Tioga County Sheriff’s Department and the Waverly-Barton Fire Department.
