Country Music Television’s “My Big Redneck Wedding” is a show that features some outlandish wedding themes based around well-established redneck pastimes, and on Sept. 27 camera crews will venture to Wolcott Hollow Road for the latest in their popular series, the marriage of Terri Farr and Greg Wittig.
Having an alternative wedding has always been a dream of Farr’s, who planned their hunting-and-fishing-themed nuptials in memory of her late father who enjoyed these outdoor pastimes.
“I told everybody that I would never get married unless it was a redneck wedding,” said Farr, who added that her fiancee Wittig was in love with the idea.
The wedding will take place in the midst of one of Wittig’s hunting excursions with his groomsmen, and will feature them unchanged from their camouflage for the event, preferably covered in pheasant blood.
Farr, who makes many of her own clothes, will be wearing a dress made out of purple camouflage, while her bridesmaids will be outfitted in tied-together tank tops with bucks on the front, carrying bouquets with horns sprouting from the middle.
A minister from “out of the middle of nowhere” who’s known for sporting a lip full of chew will preside over the ceremony, and Wittig has made sure his great-grandfather’s shotgun was in working condition to be fired off during the event.
Farr will be battling her nerves during the ceremony, but not because of the lifetime commitment at stake; it’s because of the presence of the cameras and the thought of her image being broadcast before millions of viewers.
“It’s going to be a scary debut, I don’t like TV,” said Farr. “It will be more like ‘Watch Terri Drop.’”
Because of her fear for the camera, Farr somewhat-reluctantly thanked those under the name of Bradford County who caught wind of her wedding plans and frantically e-mailed CMT to bring their cameras to the area.
“I got a phone call from Pink Sneakers Productions (who produce the show) saying they had 80-some e-mails,” said Farr. “I hung up and they kept calling. I thought they were joking.”
Farr noted that she also has a measure of revenge planned for those who e-mailed CMT, but left the details as a surprise for guests.
The show’s involvement in their wedding has helped alleviate a variety of wedding costs through sponsorships with Wal-Mart, Kmart, Skoal, Copenhagen, Jack Daniels, Realtree, Sutty’s, Dandy Mini Mart, Alexander’s Guns and Ammo, and Tom’s Hardware.
Wedding events include a dumpster full of Nickelodeon slime, mudwrestling, and boar rides.
Because so many have invited themselves already, in addition to the bride and groom “knowing everyone in the Sayre, Athens and Waverly area,” the event is open to the public. Instead of a guestbook guests will be made to sign a waiver, freeing the newlyweds of any claims of injury due to drunkenness. Body guards also will be on hand in the case of any fights.
“If you come dressed up, I’m taking the scissors out of my dress and cutting you up,” said Farr.
The big redneck wedding of Farr and Wittig will take place Sept. 27 at 6766 Wolcott Hollow Road, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
