John Wilbur “Jack” Rounds, age 65, formerly of Athens, Pa., passed away Monday, May 27, 2019, in Orlando, Fla.
He was a graduate of Sayre High School in 1972 and shortly after began his railroad career as a conductor in 1974. Jack was an avid landscaper, his backyard was a showroom of his talents and many of the storefront cherry trees in downtown Sayre were planted by him during Sayre’s Beautification Project held in the 1980s. He possessed a charismatic personality; wherever he went. he entertained people with his humor and quick wit.
He is preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Elizabeth Rounds, and two brothers Gerard and David Rounds.
He is survived by his daughter Kristen LaPlante of Elmira Heights and son Joel (Amanda) Rounds of Athens; three grandchildren Talon LaPlante and Ryu and Reaghan Rounds; his siblings Kathleen Hale of Corning and Richard Rounds of Wilkes-Barre; his aunt Marceline (Steve) Dunn of Corning; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will include a gravesite service at Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, on June 10 at 11 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life held at the Ukes Club in Sayre from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
