Betty J. Bailey, 73, of Athens passed away on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008 at home following an extended illness.
She was born on July 16, 1935 in Barton the daughter of the late Harvey M. and Nellie B. Laughlin Wolfe.
Betty was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 43 and was past matron and past district deputy. She graduated from Sayre Area High School in 1953. Betty married Phillip Bailey on Jan. 15, 1955. She worked at Blue Swan, helped Phil at the service station and was employed at the Robert Packer Hospital as a unit clerk.
She is predeceased by a son, James H. Bailey, Sr. on May 4, 2005.
Betty is survived by her husband of 53 years, Phillip; her children, Joanna and Jerry Montgomery of Athens and Genevra and Steve Case of Waxhaw, N.C.; her grandchildren, James H. and Sylvia Bailey, Jr., Joshua Bailey, Jared and Danielle Bailey, Justin and Lora Bailey, Steven Case, Amber Case, Nicolas Montgomery and Holden Montgomery; her great-grandson, Mason Bailey; her sister, Pauline Brennan of Athens; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and family may call on Monday, Aug. 25, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home, Inc., 225 South Main St., Athens. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. James Donahoo from the Sayre Christian Church officiating. Eastern Star Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
