When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, remember the love that we have shared, and that will comfort thee . . . Our loving husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa William J. “Bill” Snyder Sr., 72, of RR 3, Rome, passed away Monday evening, Aug. 11, 2008 following a period of declining health.
Bill, as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, was born Oct. 6, 1935 in Waverly, one of four children to the late George L. and Mamie (Chaffee) Snyder of Warren Center. Bill spent his childhood in Warren Center and attended school in Warren Center. He enlisted and proudly served his country with the US Army. For many years Bill traveled the countryside as a tractor-trailer driver. On July 4, 1958 he married Shirley Moore, and together they raised four children. Bill was always willing to help a friend or neighbor and could always find that little part to fix an engine or small machine. He was a true collector of everything and anything. In addition he also enjoyed making maple syrup in his syrup shack. Bill will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and his community.
Bill is survived by: his wife of 50 years, Shirley; children Shawn and Doug Russell, Bill Snyder Jr., Nathan and Brenda Snyder, and Neal and Lisa Snyder; his grandchildren, Mamie and Paul, Bill and Angela, Mia and Ben, Alicia, Kyle, Jordan, Colton, and Shane; his great-grandchildren, Alena and Leah; his special canine companion, Seneca Lady; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Albert and Betty Moore; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Cathy and Tom Rought; and many nieces, nephews, and their families. Bill was predeceased by his sisters Katherine Hunt Wilcox and Adelaide Snyder and a brother, George Snyder.
