John W. Elston, 61, of 11 S. Wayne Street, St. Mary’s, Ohio, formerly of Waverly, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2008 at OSU Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
    He was predeceased by his parents John and Jean Elston of Elmira, N.Y.; granddaughter Katherine Jane Irons of St. Mary’s, Ohio and father-in-law John Ault of Waverly.
    John is survived by his wife of 43 years Nancy (Ault) of St. Mary’s; daughters Carol (Dave) Irons of St. Mary’s, Karen (Scott) Meyers of Spencerville, Ohio, Jody (Mack) Peterson of St. Mary’s, Missy Elston of St. Mary’s; sons Mike (Beth) Elston of Cincinnati, Ohio, John Elston Jr. of St. Mary’s; 11 grandchildren, Danny Irons, Jackie Long, Alexis Long, Tyler Kovar, Shelbee Kovar, Calvin Powell, Logan Peterson, Mason Meyers, Reese Peterson, Olivia Elston, Sophia Elston; brother Jeff (Lisa) Elston of Elmira; sisters Diane (Jim) Smith of Waverly, Merry (Mike) Ward of Elmira, Nora (George) Sheely of Elmira, Judy Smith of Elmira, Linda (Jack) Freeman of Chemung; mother-in-law Rosemary Ault of Waverly and several nieces and nephews.
    John was a carpenter and enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. A very devoted family man, his greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
