Philip A. Alexander, 93, of Sayre, passed away Friday, July 4, 2008 following an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 9, 1914 in Italy, the son of the late Tomasso and Margherita Morello Alessandroni. Philip was employed for 40 years as a railroad car inspector with Lehigh Valley Railroad and Conrail. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre. Philip received the Purple Heart from wounds received during combat in France. He loved to hunt, garden, grocery shop, and play the lottery.
He was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Virginia, in 1988.
He is survived by: his children, Philip D. Alexander of Sayre, Maria (Louis) Fratarcangeli of Sherwood, Ore., Elaina Alexander of Sayre, and Richard (Debi) Alexander of Sayre; grandchildren Michael (Lori) Fratarcangeli of Swayersville, Pa., Lisa (Brian) Stevenson of Nanticoke, Pa., DeSalle Fratarcangeli of Philadelphia, Justin Alexander of Lock Haven, Pa., Scott Alexander of Elmira Heights, N.Y., Aaron Alexander of Sayre, and Josh Alexander of Sayre; great-grandchild Emmy Rivera of Philadelphia; sisters Philamena Heppe of Pine City and Rose Abrams of Sayre; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and family may call Tuesday, July 8, 2008 from 8-9 a.m. at Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home Inc., 225 S. Main St., Athens. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Church of the Epiphany, 304 S. Elmer Ave., Sayre, at 9 a.m. with Father Andrew Hvzodovic officiating. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery.
