    Matthew M. Garfield (Matt, Mike), 82, of Endwell, passed away on Saturday, June 28 at Wilson Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
    He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Angeline Garfield of Waverly, N.Y.
    He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathryn (Kathy) of Endwell; daughter Joyce and son-in-law Douglas Russell, and two grandsons, Dominick and Anthony of Vestal. Also, his brother and sister-in-law Joe and Arlene Garfield of Endwell; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Charley Maloney of Waverly, and Ann and Ken Burke of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister Mary Garfield, also of Albuquerque; brother-in-law John Friede of Plymouth Meeting, Pa.; two aunts, Elizabeth Alamo of Waverly, N.Y., and Susie and Jack O’Hara, Sun City, Ariz.; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Matt was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the pacific during WWII on the destroyer USS Bivin. He was a graduate of Waverly High School and the Rochester Business Institute. He retired after 32 years of employment with IBM and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He worked part-time at the Hooper Package Store in Endwell, but the greatest job he ever had was caring for his beloved grandsons, Dominick and Anthony.
    He was a member of the Christ the King Church, Endwell. He was an avid golfer, N.Y. Giants and Chicago Cubs fan. He loved taking his grandsons to the Binghamton rail yard and enjoyed going to the Tioga Downs racino.
    A grateful thank you to his caring doctors and staff on the third floor CCU and ICU’s at Wilson Hospital.
    A funeral mass will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 1501 Davis Ave., Endwell. Entombment will follow in Riverhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Leon Pucedo Funeral Home Inc., 1905 Waston Blvd., Endicott, on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expessions of sympathy in his memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
