Jack Clinton Chilson, 80, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008.
He was a native of Sayre and had lived in Orange Park, Fla. for the past eight years. He was the son of the late Clinton DeWitt Chilson and Carolin Swartwood Wescott.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Elaine Chilson; two sons Jan of Fernandina Beach, Fla. and Jeffrey of Norfolk, Va.;seven grandchildren: Carolin, Clifford, Clinton, Christopher, Cynthia, Michele, and Nathan; two great grandchildren, Brandon and Lauren Ann; and his most devoted friend John Bond of Jacksonville, Fla.
Jack was a decorated Naval veteran having served in the United States Navy for 22 years. His naval career started in World War II and lasted until 1967. Following that career, Jack worked for the Federal government in Gitmo, Cuba; Subic Bay Naval Base, Philippines’; and Naval Air Station, Lemoore, Calif. and finally retired from the federal government after having served more than 30 years of service to his country.
A time for gathering with family and friends will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008 at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly. The celebration of Jack’s life will follow the visitation with the Rev. James Donahoo honoring his memory at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to Stray Haven Humane Society, 194 Shepard Rd., Waverly, NY 14892.
