Philip J. Fahey, of Wellesley Island. N.Y. and formerly of Waverly passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008 at the Robert Packer Hospital , Sayre after an extended illness. He was born November 30, 1927 in Sayre the son of the late Richard and Louise Fahey.
He married the former Patricia Dunfee on October 27, 1951 at the Church of Epiphany in Sayre. He is survived by his wife Patricia, and four children: Diane (Bill) VanDeBogart of Charlotte, N.C., Kevin (Kate) of Stowe , Vermont , Michael (Donna) of Eatonton, Ga., and Patricia (James) Strong of Owego; five grandchildren: Shannon Badr, Kelli Jo Strong, Autumn Fahey, Kristina Fahey , and Philip Strong; two great-grandchildren: Zachary and MaKenna Badr; two brothers: Fred (Ann) of Countryside, Ill. , and Russ (Pat) of Daytona Beach, Fla. He has also left behind his faithful canine companion “Mulligan”.
He served in the United States Navy and upon his discharge he was employed by the Lehigh Valley Railroad. He was then employed by Penelec in Sayre until his retirement in 1986. He was a former Village of Waverly trustee . He was active in Waverly Little League and Babe Ruth. He was the District Commissioner for the Little League in New York State . He belonged to the American Legion Post No. 492, and served on their board of directors. He was a member of the VFW, the Moose Lodge, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was a member of the Waverly Fire Department and the Wellesley Island Fire Department. He was also a Certified EMT for the Wellesley Island Fire Department. He was a former member of the Saint James Church in Waverly and a current member of the Saint Francis Xavier Church in Redwood, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wellesley Island Fire Department, Wellesley Island, NY 13640 or the charity of one’s choice. A time for gathering with family and friends will be Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at the Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly. The Rev.
