The Residents for the Preservation of Lowman and Chemung deserve a lot of praise for the success of Saturday’s 220th anniversary celebration for the Town of Chemung.
Over 100 people jammed into the Chemung Elementary School for Saturday’s event.
Several members of the RFPLC spoke about the history of the town during the anniversary celebration — RFPLC Secretary Robin De Lill Stroman spoke on “Why is history important?” and RFPLC Vice President Dr. Earl Robinson Jr. discussed “Historic Chemung’s Early Settlers: Challenges and Accomplishments.”
In addition, two proclamations were presented during the event in honor of the town’s birthday — one from U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer and a joint resolution from the New York State Assembly and Senate. Several people even dressed up in period garb for Saturday’s event.
We were impressed with the event as well as the time and dedication that RFPLC members put into organizing it. It was a fitting tribute to one of the most historical towns in the country.
