SAYRE — Sayre put 10 runs on the board in the first inning and cruised to a 16-1 win over RTL Wednesday night in a District 15 Minors Little League pool play game.
Brendan Cooke, Brady Flynn, Chase Wheeler, Blake Zingeser, and Maison Apgar fueled the early uprising. Cooke’s three-run home run, which came in his second at bat of the inning, brought in the seventh, eighth and ninth runs of the inning. Wheeler had two RBIs in the inning with Apgar, Zingeser and Flynn adding an RBI each.
Sayre scored six more runs in the third inning without an out being recorded to end the game early.
Coke went the distance on the mound for Sayre, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out eight and had lots of offensive help.
Cooke finished with his first-inning single and homer, three RBIs and three runs. Wheeler ended the game with two singles, three RBIs and a run and Koenig had two singles, two runs and one RBI. Ty Owen had a double, two runs and one RBI; and Apgar matched Flynn with a single, two runs and one RBI each.
Also for Sayre, Zingeser had a single a run and one RBI; Cameron Ross had a single and a run; and Tucker Green matched Jacob Gorsline with a run each.
RTL got its run in the third inning when Wyatt Spencer doubled and came home on an RBI single by Marshall Huston.
