WELLSBORO — After dropping a 9-1 decision to Wellsboro over the weekend, Sayre’s Juniors were hoping for a different result on the road on Monday.
Such was not to be the case, however, as Wellsboro posted a 12-2 win to earn the District 15 Juniors title.
After a scoreless first inning, Wellsboro’s Cody Fleming and Andrew Merriman reached base and scored.
Wellsboro added three runs in the third inning and another in the fourth for a 6-0 lead before Sayre got on the board.
Tanner Green reached base three times and scored both Sayre runs. Unfortunately for the local nine, Wellsboro plated six runs between Green’s two.
Sayre had its chances as they sent 33 batters to the plate. For the game, 11 men were left on base including leaving the bases loaded in the fifth and seventh innings and runners at second and third in the third inning.
Wellsboro was much more efficient. Although the home team left a runner on base in each inning, Wellsboro only left two runners on once.
Fleming, who had a double, scored three times to lead Wellsboro. Will Kibler, Camerron Brought and Peyton McClure scored twice each. Checking with a run each were Caden Smith, Andrew Merriman and Levi Evans.
