SAYRE — Jackson Varner was 3-for-3, and Karter Green went 2-for-2 but it wasn’t enough for Sayre to topple RTL which ran away from the Valley with a 17-4 win over the home side.
RTL went up 6-0 after the top of the second inning but Sayre responded.
Sayre got on the board in the bottom of the inning. Austyn Stedge opened the inning by getting plunked by as pitch. Successive walks to Kayne McCutcheon and Jessie Porter loaded the bases. Then Hogan Shaw accepted a four-pitch RBI walk to get Sayre on the board. After a strikeout, Hudson Trump doubled to right field. McCutcheon scored, but Porter was out at the plate. Back-to-back RBI singles by Green and Varner made it 6-4 before RTL could escape the inning.
From there though, it was all RTL as the visitors scored four runs in the third and seven in the fourth to end the game early.
For Sayre, Green and Varner each added an RBI to perfection at the plate. Trump had a double, a run and an RBI; Shaw had a run and an RBI; Kevin Learn and Logan Zingeser had a single each; and Stedge matched McCutcheon with a run each.
Green went the distance on the hill for Sayre, giving up 17 hits, five walks and fanning four in four innings.
