MANSFIELD — Local products Matt Williams (Sayre) and Pierce Hendershot (Tioga) fared well for the Mansfield Destroyers in Wednesday night’s New York Collegiate Baseball League, but the local side fell to Hornell by a 7-4 count.
Hornell scored three in the top of the first and led 6-0 through six innings.
Mansfield got on the board in the bottom of the seventh. Andrew Walker walked with one out. With Walker on third two batters later after a pair of steals, Hendershot reached on a walk. Hendershot stole second and Grant Viera laced a two-run single.
In the ninth, Andrew Mow and Mansfield’s own Kipp Hillson were each hit by a pitch and went to third and second; respectively, on a sacrifice fly by Hendershot. Vera ripped a two run double to set the final score as the rally died there.
Williams had a single in three trips to the plate. Hensdershot finished with a run on two at-bats.
