ATHENS — Athens Minors didn’t have any really big innings Tuesday night, but they did score in every inning of an 11-1 District 15 Winners Bracket win and Duncan Thetga tossed a complete-game two hitter.
Sam Cheresnowsky got Athens started in the bottom of the first with a walk. Connor Davidson and Thetga followed suit and the bases were loaded. Alex McQuay reached on an error that allowed Cheresnowsky and Davidson to score.
After putting another run on the board in the second, Athens added two more runs in the third on a single by Thetga, and an RBI single by Eli Hicks, who later scored on a wild pitch.
After Susquehanna Area plated a run in the top of the fourth inning, Athens plated three runs in the bottom of the inning. Kamdyn Wheeler walked to start Athens off and Davidson came through with a one-out RBI double. After another out, McQuay laced an RBI single and scored on an RBI single by Hicks.
Athens ended the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Walks to Graham Wanck, Zach Fisher, Wheeler and Cheresnowski brought in one run. Davidson added an RBI ground out, and walks to Thetga and McQuay ended the game.
Hicks led Athens at the plate with two singles, a run and two RBIs; Davidson had a double, two runs and two RBIs; and McQuay had a single, four RBIs and a run. Wheeler finished with a single and two runs; Cheresnowsky had one RBI and two runs scored; and Wanck matched Zach Fisher with a run each.
