ATHENS — Troy Rosenbloom and Dylan Saxon threw a three-inning no hitter and got plenty of support from the offense to down Sayre 17-1 in the opening round of District 15 Majors Little League pool play Friday evening.
Athens turned four singles, five doubles and six walks into 13 second-inning runs.
Athens started the decisive inning with the lead after turning three singles, a walk and hit batsman into four runs.
The bottom of the second inning opened when Eli Hobday got plunked. After Eli Chapman drew a walk and both advanced a base, Carson Rowe hit a two-run double to center. After an out, Matt Driesbaiugh added an RBI double. Saxon and Riley Campbell added RBI singles with Brady Darrow, Oliver Johnson and Hobday adding an RBI double each. Eli Chapman and Nick Grazul added an RBI single each and the rest of the runs came on walks.
Sayre got on the board in the top of the third. With one out, Kevin Learn was hit by a pitch and Declan Berry walked. Learn, who had advanced from first to third on a wild pitch and a passed ball, scored on an RBI groundout off the bat of Hogan Shaw.
Driesbaugh led Athens at the plate with a single, a double, four RBIs and three runs scored, and Rowe had two singles, three RBIs and two runs.
Brady Darrow had a double, two RBIs and a run; Eli Chapman finished with a single, three RBIs and a run; Johnson had a double, a run and one RBI; and Rosenboom aided his cause with a single and three runs.
Also for Athens, Hobday had a double, two runs and one RBI; Campbell added a single, a run and two RBIs; Saxon had a single, a run and one RBI; Grazul had a single and one RBI; and Rodney Chapman had one RBI.
Rosenbloom struck out three in two innings and Saxon fanned one in one inning on the hill.
For Sayre, Learn had a run and Shaw had the RBI.
Karter Green, Shaw and Logan Zingeser handled the pitching chores for Sayre.
