Athens Majors stay alive

ATHENS — Down 2-0, Athens posted five runs in the bottom of the second and went on to a 7-3 win over Susquehanna Area in a District 15 Little League Majors elimination game Saturday.

The rally started when Riley Campbell beat out a roller to second. Campbell stole second and then went to third on a fly-ball error that allowed Braden Reed to make it all the way to second. Eli Chapman got Athens on the board with an RBI single. With runners on first and second, Carson Rowe singled to load the bases for Troy Rosenbloom, who tied the game with a four-pitch walk. With Nick Grazul at the plate, Chapman stole home and the other baserunners advanced a base. With Reed on third, Grazul hit into an RBI ground out. Rosenbloom then stole home to end Athens’ five-run rally.

Susquehanna Area got to within 5-3 in the third inning, but Athens slammed the door with two more runs in the fifth.

Grazul led Athens at the plate with a double, a run and one RBI, and Eli Chapman finished with a single, a run and one RBI.

Matt Driesbauch had a single and an RBI; Rowe and Campbell had a single and a run each; Rosenbloom scored twice and had an RBI; Reed scored once; and Eli Hobday had a single for Athens.

Rosenbloom started on the hill for Athens and allowed four hits, two walks and three earned runs in 2 2/3 innings with six strikeouts. Grazul pitched the last 3 1/3 innings. He allowed one hit and a walk but fanned eight.

Athens will visit Towanda at 6 p.m. today in another elimination bracket contest.
