ND rolls to Waverly title

    Notre Dame steamrolled the competition throughout the Waverly Girls’ JV Summer Basketball League season and continued to roll through the playoffs, winning twice Thursday night to walk away with the title.
Notre Dame topped Watkins Glen in the semifinals, then met Towanda, which downed Athens in the final. Notre Dame won that game too to take the 2008 championship.
    Semifinals
    Notre Dame 36, Watkins Glen 7
    Notre Dame was up 15-2 at the half and rolled from there.
Taylor Drake and Bernadette Gublo paced the Crusaders, scoring eight and seven points, respectively. Elizabeth Bulkley added six points for Notre dame.
Chelsea Lehman topped the Senecas with three points.
    Towanda 27, Athens 11
    The Knights pitched a first-half shutout at Athens, leading by 15 points at the break.
Darien Lantz led Towanda with 11 points and Alysha Grimes added five points.
Brittney Mink topped Athens’ scoring list with four points.
    Championship
    Notre Dame 48, Towanda 26
    Notre Dame, as was the case all season, was never challenged, rolling out to a 27-6 halftime lead.
    Gublo was unstoppable, leading the Crusaders with 21 points. Drake added nine points.
    Lantz paced Towanda with 10 points and Ashley Fleming netted eight points for the Knights.
