The Black Diamonds have had a very successful 2008 season so far, sporting a 10-2 record that includes three wins last weekend in their most recent action.
On Saturday, June 21, the Black Diamonds topped the Black Sox 11-1.
Leading the charge for the local squad were Travis Fairbanks, who had two singles, a double and three runs scored and Andy Kline, who added three singles and two runs scored.
Jon Pack had two singles and a stolen base and Andrew Jarvis contributed a single, a steal and a run. Brian Osborn and Anthony Villanti chipped in a single and a run each, Nate Newman singled and Trent Patton, who got the complete-game win with 12 strikeouts and allowing eight hits and three walks, added a run scored.
Sunday, June 22, the Black Diamonds played a doubleheader against the A’s. The local nine won the first game 9-0 and the second 7-5.
In the opener, Tim VanDyke, Pack and Shane Ryan led the way. VanDyke had two doubles, a single and two runs scored. Pack had two singles, a double and a run scored. Ryan added two singles, a double and a run scored.
Brian Osborn added a double, Bruce Osborn had a single and two runs scored, Ryan Bardo kicked in a single and Kline matched Villanti with a run scored apiece.
Newman and Fairbanks were the men in the nightcap. Newman was 3-for-3 with two singles and a home run, scoring twice and Fairbanks had a first-inning, three-run homer to spark a five-run inning.
Ryan, who fanned 13 batters, allowing seven hits and four walks to get the win, added a single and a run, Bruce Osborn had a single and a stolen base and Brian Osborn also added a single. Pack, Bardo and VanDyke scored once each.
The Black Diamonds, sponsored by Joe Joyce, Skerpon’s Beverage, Williams Nissan, the Waverly VFW, Guthrie FCU, Jim’s Guns and Engraving and Patton’s store, will play their next game at Athens Saturday, July 12 at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 13, the squad will play a doubleheader at Owego High School with the opener slated to begin at 1 p.m.
