Sayre’s majors grab win

    The Sayre majors took home a 6-4 win against Allegany Mountain on Wednesday in Little League All-star baseball in the Daniel J. Aquilio Tournament.
Pitching for Sayre was Seth Murelle. Murelle pitched six innings and tallied six strikeouts.
    Hitters for Sayre were Nathan Williams with two doubles, Murelle with two singles, Elijah Knupp with a triple and a single and Cuyler Kochin with a single.
Pitching for Allegany Mountain was Brandon Whitecell and Jacob Burell. They combined for five strikeouts.
    Hitters were Nate Bonham with a double and Kyle Rice, Aaron Olney and Caleb Rice with a single apiece.
Minors
Sayre  20, Susquehanna County 19
    Sayre's Jacob Wheeler hit a one-out, two-run double to give Sayre a come-from-behind win in a game that saw five lead changes.
    With Susquehanna County up 19-16 and one out in the bottom of the sixth, Sayre batters Brad Shepard, Brandon Shepard, and Mitchell Ward drew consecutive walks. Leadoff hitter Jason Grover then walked to force in a run. A wild pitch brought in another run to pull Sayre within one. Wheeler then lined a double into the right-center field gap to bring home the winning runs.
    Sayre again displayed some good defense with Grover, Wheeler and Matt Williams all throwing out a runner at home.
     Leading hitters for Sayre were Matt Williams, with two doubles, a triple, four RBI and two runs scored and Wheeler, who had two singles, a double, two RBI and four runs scored.
    Grover had a double and three RBI, scoring three times, Adam Moore had a single, a run acored and one RBI and Michael Ward had a single and one run scored.
Brad Shepard had three runs for Sayre and Austin Rowe had two runs. Crossing home once each were John Esposito, Mitchell Ward, Brandon Shepard and Aidan Sharma.
Pitchers for Sayre were Grover, Michael ward, Wheeler and Austin Rowe who combined for six strikeouts, nine walks and 10 hits with Williams and Esposito catching.
Susquehanna’s top hitters were M. Peck with four singles, S. Tewksbury with two singles and a single each from B. Tyler, H. Traver, J. Hayes and R. Hinkley. Pitching were Traver, Peck and Tyler. They combined for nine strikeouts, 17 walks and six hits with Peck and T. Moon catching.
    The next game for Sayre will be at RTL on Saturday at 3 p.m.
