The Valley ASA All-star girls, who were sponsored by Bishop Bros. Construction and The Palmer House Bed & Breakfast, went to Corning this Fourth of July weekend for the Cinderella World Series which had a total of 13 teams.
Friday and Saturday’s games were for seeding. Friday night under the lights they faced Lawrenceville winning 17-7 and Saturday the girls faces Addison and lost 18-8. Later that day the girls faced Corning and won 19-2.
Going into Sunday they were seeded eighth and took on the seventh seeded Southport and won 18-5. Then after a 20 minute rest they had to take on the second seeded Corning team again. They lost 9-2.
Pitchers for the weekend were Stephanie Bellis who pitched a total of 11 and a half innings and had 11 strikeouts and 21 walks. Kylie Newman pitched six innings and had two walks and three walks, Hannah Reid pitched five innings and had seven strikeouts and eight walks, Danielle Burkhart pitched two innings and had two strikeouts and eight walks and Sam Mennig pitched three innings and had a strikeout and four walks.
Hitting for the weekend were Burkhart with three singles and a double, Reid with a single, Newman with six singles and two RBI, Kiana Manuel with five singles, a double and four RBI; Jordan Kerrick with five singles; Mennig with two singles and a triple; Sidney Shaffer with four singles, a double and four RBI; Stephanie Bellis with three singles, a double, a triple, two RBI and a home run and Sara Goble with three singles and an RBI.
This was the girls first tournament and they will travel to Big Flats this weekend for another tournament.
