Waverly and Corning hooked up Sunday in the championship game of the Bottone Tournament with the visitors from the west throwing six no-hit innings at theirr hosts on the way to an 11-0 victory.
Big Flats finished third in the tournament.
Tyler Dillon started on the hill for Corning, striking out three in the two innings he worked. Elisha Case came in to start the third inning and struck out four in his four innings of relief. Each hurler walked one batter and collected one single at the plate.
By the time Case took the mound, Corning was up 8-0 courtesy of a big seven-run second inning. Corning added a single run in the fourth and tacked on two more in the top of the sixth.
Josh Dyring paced the Corning squad at the plate with a home run and two doubles. Derek Ayers added one double and a home run, Ty Mayo had a single and a double and Jarrett Updyke contributed two singles to Corning’s 14-hit attack. In addition, catcher Jordan Prisella, Jach Sullivan, and Derek Fie had a single each for Corning.
Colton Miller and Jacob Baldwin handled the pitching duties for Waverly, allowing seven hits each. Miller had one strikeout and Baldwin three. Ryan Wolcott and Dylan Perry took care of the catching duties for the host squad.
