It’s been a good few days for the Athens Little League 9-10 year olds. They battled their way through the Battone Tournament and right into the Championship game that was held Saturday morning. The good times didn’t stop there either, as Athens took home the championship against Big Flats with a 10-6 win.
Big Flats got off to an early start by scoring three runs in the first inning. Athens remained scoreless until the third inning when they matched Big Flats with three runs of their own. Big Flats added three more runs in the fourth inning, but it was Athens who laughed last by adding seven runs in the fifth inning to secure the win.
Athens’s Aaron Barry pitched three innings and had three strikeouts and three walks. Austin Lister took over for the final three innings and added three more strikeouts and two walks.
Barry led his team at the plate with a triple and an RBI. Parkey May had a single and two RBI, Lister had a single and an RBI, Sam Perri had two singles and Matt Collins and Ryan Seager each chipped in a single.
Pitching for Big Flats was Austin Teets who pitched four and two-thirds innings. Teets had four strikeouts and three walks before Dustin Coots took over and had no strikeouts or walks. Austin Andryshak took over for the last 1 1/3 innings and had a strikeout.
Hitting for Big Flats were Teets with a triple, a single and two RBI; Clark with a triple; Andryshak with three singles and an RBI; Coots with a double and Gaylord with two singles.
